When you register for anything online, enter the website's name as your "middle name." When the spam arrives, you will know which website sold your data.

Better to add the name of the website Like "Paul Facebook" or "Paul FB" Use email aliases : paul+facebook@email.com

when you REGISTER for stuff online today you need to verify your email address, if you don' have access to it like for example paul+facebook@email.com. So very a*s wipe advice... its better to get a cheap hosting account set up email with a default address that lids into spam

what is the point of this? I hear people talk about this as a 'hack' but it really accomplishes nothing. what are you going to do with the information that Walmart sold your data? tell on them?

an actual useful version is that websites with free trials ask for an email. if you put john+walmart@mail.com the websites thinks its different from john@mail.com giving you an extra free trial, then John+walmart2@mail.com etc.
